Wake up call!

Can we call it a coincidence that two of the airplanes of Air India made emergency landing at the same airport on the same day? Well, if we go by the earlier records of Air India, the answer is a straight NO. Frequent emergency landing of airplanes and the mounting problems faced by the passengers are not good signs for the national airliner especially at a time when air services are considered in determining the prestige of any country.

This incident not only affects Air India but also the country to a greater extent, let alone the poor passengers. The emergency landing of two airplanes at the New Delhi airport has once again raised some old and important questions. It attracts attention towards the maintenance and the pathetic conditions of airplanes. Although the Air India’s officials didn’t accept any fault in maintenance or any kind of human error, but it is hard to turn back on the fact that the airplanes present in Air India’s fleet are old and need replacements.

The senior officials accept the presence of old aircraft’s but always avoid considering it the only reason behind such incidents. Air India has decided to purchase new airplanes but during the last one year only one aircraft has been included into its fleet. No doubt Air India has to face such problems because of unnecessary delays in acquiring new airplanes. But this long delay once again has made clear that the way of working doesn’t change even if the central government changes in our country.

Why prolonged talks and meetings are held in each and every international trade agreements? No doubt the same will happen in the case of acquiring new aircraft’s for Air India. There is nothing unusual about aviation ministry, ordering Air India to speed up the process of buying new and improved airplanes after two of the airplanes failed to take off.

For Air India, acquiring new airplanes wouldn’t be going to put everything back on track as there are certain other issues that are to be tackled such as the less number of pilots and the mounting problems of the passengers such as delay in flight schedules and improper service.

The long process of modernization of the airports is also a factor behind Air India’s poor performance. Currently the aviation sector is expanding like never before, not only private airliners are increasing but also their aircraft’s. Country’s major national and international airports are not capable of bearing the burden of increased air traffic. Unfortunately the decision of modernizing the airports was not taken well before time.

Now let's see how much time the aviation ministry will took to introduce the technique, which is required for safe landing of airplanes in case of fog.
